Boosting Communication Competence of the English Language Students Training for IELTS

Abstract

The relevance of the chosen research topic is determined by the complexity of the building the foreign language communicative competence of students. In these regards, the experience gained by the authors over many years of training “candidates” for the IELTS, that is the International English Language Testing System (Speaking Module) is vitally important. The wide coverage of the audience of different age of “candidates” taking the exam, the variety of content and organization of tasks in the “Speaking” section of this exam provided the authors with the significant material for analysis and formulation of recommendations within the framework of the research problem. In the course of the work, the authors clarified the concept of “communicative competence” in a foreign language, summarized and clarified the prospective challenges that communicants may face in implementation of this concept. For this the authors made an insight into the most recurrent mistakes made by the IELTS “candidates” taking Speaking Module. The authors also formulated the recommendations for boosting the communicative competence of students training for the IELTS exam (Speaking Module, in particular). The material provided by the authors may be of a particular interest for those training for the IELTS as well as for the English language learners and teachers worldwide.
