Abstract

In this work, we attempted to make a comparative analysis of the "ki" role in sentences in Tatar and Turkish. The novelty of this topic can be explained due to the lack of specific studies on the syntactic function of "ki". This is especially noticeable in Tatar as the grammar structure of the language, on the whole, has been studied very little. Besides, comparative studies pay attention to wider topic comparing different levels of languages overall therefore there is lack of comparative studies considering such narrow topics as the role of a certain conjunction in different languages. As a result, we came to the conclusion that "ki" in both Tatar and Turkish can be a multifunctional conjunction (subordinate and compositional), placed at the end of the main sentence; modal word; particle. At the same time it is noteworthy that in the Tatar language "ki" referring to different categories of conjunctions, particles and modal words nevertheless has fewer meanings than in Turkish. The use of "ki" in Tatar is not as wide as in Turkish; it is gradually disappearing from the speech of native speakers.
