Abstract

The repertoire of theaters has long included dramatizations of literary works in addition to drama. But recently this trend has intensified: drama has lost its monopoly, and theaters are increasingly turning to epic, lyrical and documentary texts. This feature was noted by an outstanding researcher of modern theater, the German scientist Hans-Thies Lehmann, who created the theory of "post-dramatic theater". In this situation, the role of dramatization as a form of dramatic adaptation of prose increases. The authors of dramatizations can be both writers themselves who create a dramatic version of their own work, and professional playwrights, directors, etc. In each of these cases, the dramatization will have its own characteristics. At the same time, although created for the theater, and for the most part for a specific performance, it retains the features of drama as a kind of literature. This article discusses the dramatizations that formed the basis of performances in theaters of the Republic of  Tatarstan. Speaking about the dramatic versions of prose works of Russian, Tatar and foreign literature, here we dwell in detail on the latter. In the center of our attention are dramatizations based on the works of German, American, Turkish and other foreign authors. There are both Tatar and Russian theaters in Tatarstan. Therefore, this article will focus on texts in both languages.
