The theme of death in the poetry of Boris Сhichibabin

Abstract

This paper presents the study of the theme of death in the poetic heritage of Boris Alekseevich Chichibabin. Despite the increasing interest in the lyrics of the poet, this issue has remained beyond the research of literary scholars and philologists. Drawing attention to the different stages in the life and work of Chichibabin, the authors note the semantic emphasis of the theme of death in the poet's verses, the vision of different facts of life through the prism of death and, finally, the reinterpretation of the latter, inspired by the feeling of love. The theme of death is developed with the attendant patterns of anti- Semitism, life and death, death of Motherland, degeneration of patriots, salvation of the soul and others. Expanding the understanding of the theme of death, these motives turn it into a leading motive of the poet's work, allow to evaluate his creative heritage in a new way. Special attention is paid to sound and rhythmic patterns of the poem "the Bell" as one of the key works in the creative heritage of A.B. Chichibabin. The associations generated by the sound patterns of the work give rise to a special musical background, thanks to which it begins to be perceived in a different way. The image of the bell, thanks to sound repetition, begins to be perceived as visible, its semantic content is supplemented by new connotations.
