The article is devoted to the consideration of speech tactics and strategies in the implementation of which reportative category is involved. The reportative category means reference to third sources. The reportative category can act as a constructive element of the strategy of appeal to the mind when the speaker has the intention to make his statement more reasoned, weighty and justified. The reportative category can also be an instrument of emotional impact on jurors.
